When we import User Defined Fields into the database, we can import multiple values for User Defined Fields that are marked as multi-select fields. These fields will have a series of check boxes for the values so that we can select multiple values rather than a drop down menu, which only allows us to assign one value. We have to format the information in the CSV file very consistently so that the database recognizes that there are multiple values for the field.
We have five characters that can denote separation between values for a User Defined Field- an asterisk (*), a vertical line (|), a comma (,), a semi colon (;), or a tilde (~). When we type the values in our CSV file, we will separate the values using one of these characters. We must use the same character for the entire CSV file. We also, will not use any spaces between the values. For example, if we are importing favorite colors and the constituent's favorite colors are Red, Blue, and Green, we would type one of the following lines into the CSV file:
