Merge field does not populate and shows as image in email message

When receiving an email message that contains a merge field, you notice the merge field appears as an image. The merge field did not populate as expected.

You may also review the Source Code of the email and note that the code of the merge field is not as expected.

Expected: <img src="/insertField.field?id=57&amp;nmode=0&amp;name=Name&amp;type=1" style="cursor: move;" title="Individual first name, middle initial, and last name - or organization name" data-runat="server" data-fieldid="57" data-attribid="0" data-searchable="-1" data-isloop="False" data-htmlencode="True" data-fieldtype="1" data-fieldname="Name" />

Unexpected: img src="blob:F55B5728-180E-4803-9580-2B18E550A1BB"

This may happen for all merge fields or just some of the merge fields in the message.
We are currently evaluating this issue and will update this article when we have more information. We found this behavior to happen when using Internet Explorer, when drag/drop is used to add the merge field, instead of double clicking the merge field.

In the interim, either use a different browser, for example Chrome, or if using Internet Explorer, double click the merge field to add it instead of drag/dropping it.
