This article explains the process to attach your purchased non-production database to the same Blackbaud Management Console as your live database for training and testing purposes.

To purchase a non-production database, please contact your account manager at solutions@blackbaud.com or call 800.443.9441.

If your organization only uses Raiser's Edge version 7.91*: 

  1. Back up The Raiser's Edge production database.  This backup will become the live database when you are finished.
  2. Contact Support and request a serial number change utility and reference this article. Copy the files (UpdateRE791.exe and UpdateRE7.mdb) to “The Raiser's Edge\SysDB” folder on the server.  This is typically located at “C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\SysDB”.
  3. From the Desktop, browse to the “SysDB” folder and double-click UpdateRE791.exe.  In the ‘Select an RE7 database to update’ dropdown list, select the live database.  Note: the utility will change the serial number of your live database, converting it to a non-production database.
  4. Detach the database from the Blackbaud Management Console.  Note: prior to detaching make note of the database files location.
  5. Reattach the database to the Blackbaud Management Console.  Note: this is the database that was detached in step 4.
  6. Attach the Raiser's Edge database backup that was created in step one.  This is now the live database.

If your organization uses Raiser's Edge version 7.91* with Patron Edge, for version RE7.91

Note: Before proceeding ensure you have a backup of The Raiser's Edge and Patron Edge database.

  1. Disable PE integration by disabling the RE/PE Integration SQL job in Management Studio.
  2. Back up The Raiser's Edge production database. This backup will become the live database when you are finished.
  3. Contact Support and request a serial number change utility and reference this article. Copy the files (UpdateRE791.exe and UpdateRE7.mdb) to “The Raiser's Edge\SysDB” folder on the server.  This is typically located at “C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\SysDB”.
  4. From the Desktop, browse to the “SysDB” folder and double-click UpdateRE791.exe.  In the ‘Select an RE7 database to update’ dropdown list, select the live database.  Note: the utility will change the serial number of your live database, converting it to a non-production database.
  5. Detach the database from the Blackbaud Management Console.  Note: prior to detaching make note of the database files location.
  6. Reattach the database to the Blackbaud Management Console.  Note: this is the database that was detached in step 5.
  7. Attach the Raiser's Edge database backup that was created in step one.  This is now the live database.
  8. Run the PE Integration Control utility to re-establish RE/PE Integration.
  9. Re-enable the RE/PE Integration SQL job in Management Studio.
 

If your organization uses Raiser's Edge version 7.91* with Education Edge:

Note: Before proceeding ensure you have a backup of The Raiser's Edge and The Education Edge database.

  1. On the machine where integration is setup, go to Control Panel, Scheduled Tasks, and double-click EEREIntegration.
  2. Back up The Raiser's Edge production database. This backup will become the live database when you are finished.
  3. Contact Support and request a serial number change utility and reference this article.  Copy the files (UpdateRE791.exe and UpdateRE7.mdb) to “The Raiser's Edge\SysDB” folder on the server.  This is typically located at “C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\SysDB”.
  4. From the Desktop, browse to the “SysDB” folder and double-click UpdateRE791.exe.  In the ‘Select an RE7 database to update’ dropdown list, select the live database.  Note: the utility will change the serial number of your live database, converting it to a non-production database.
  5. Detach the database from the Blackbaud Management Console.  Note: prior to detaching make note of the database files location.
  6. Reattach the database to the Blackbaud Management Console.  Note: this is the database that was detached in step 6.
  7. Attach the Raiser's Edge database backup that was created in step one.  This is now the live database.
  8. Log into the live Raiser's Edge database.  Then Exit and Sign Out.
  9. Open The Education Edge, select Integration, Databases, and select the live Raiser's Edge database.
  10. On the machine where integration is setup, go to Control Panel, Scheduled Tasks, and double-click EEREIntegration.
  11. On the Task tab, mark the ‘Enabled (scheduled task run at specified time) box.  Click OK.
     

If your organization uses Raiser's Edge version 7.91* with Blackbaud NetCommunity:

Note: Before proceeding ensure you have a backup of the The Raiser's Edge and Blackbaud NetCommunity databases.

  1. Log into the Blackbaud NetCommunity website as Supervisor via the Login.aspx page.
  2. Click Administration -> Configuration.
  3. Copy the URL from The Raiser's Edge section and the Custom Service section.  Paste both URLs into Notepad for easy access later.
  4. Change both of those URLs to a false URL such as http://a

    Note: The false URLs MUST include http://
     
  5. Click Save.
  6. Navigate to your testconfig.aspx page.  The RE7 WS Ping should fail with an error message.
  7. Back up The Raiser's Edge production database. This backup will become the live database when you are finished.
  8. Contact Support and request a serial number change utility and reference this article. Copy the files (UpdateRE791.exe and UpdateRE7.mdb) to “The Raiser's Edge\SysDB” folder on the server.  This is typically located at “C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\SysDB”.
  9. From the Desktop, browse to the “SysDB” folder and double-click UpdateRE791.exe.  In the ‘Select an RE7 database to update’ dropdown list, select the live database.  Note: the utility will change the serial number of your live database, converting it to a non-production database.
  10. Detach the database from the Blackbaud Management Console.  Note: prior to detaching make note of the database files location.
  11. Reattach the database to the BMC.  Note: this is the database that was detached in step 10.
  12. Attach the Raiser’ Edge database backup that was created in step one.  This is now the live database.
  13. After completing RE7 steps 1-6 return to your BBNC Configuration page.  Restore the URL paths from The Raiser’s Edge section and the Custom Service section (from step 3).   Ensure the Database Number matches the new number for the live database.

    Note: You can check the Database Number for the new live RE7 database by going to Start, Run, Regedit and browsing to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, ODBC, ODBC.INI.  Highlight and make note of the correct RE7 database number.
     
  14. Click Save.
  15. Navigate to your testconfig.aspx page and make sure that RE7 WS Ping is Ok along with all other items.
     

* If the version number for your database is different, update the specific version numbers in file names
