This is typically caused by poorly constructed query logic or overly complex statements. To resolve it, you can try to re-Create the query from scratch. If that produces the same error, it could be caused by incorrect or incompatible criteria or a system delay, and the query should be recreated through a different type or more comprehensible logic.
For example, you could run an Activities query for event registrants, instead of an Individual's query.
This can also be caused by including a field from a folder group on the Filter tab and not having a corresponding field from that folder group as output on the Output tab.
For example, you construct a query filtering on Payments > Payments Information > Payments Date but did not include any Output field from the Payments Information section. You get the error when running the query.
Adding: Payments > Payments Information > Payment ID as an Output field should allow the query to run successfully.
