Clicking External Link in NetCommunity Email Redirects User to the NetCommunity Site Homepage

When clicking on a hyperlink from an email that goes to a website or page outside of the NetCommunity website, users may be redirected to the NetCommunity website's home page.

The following error may also show on the click-throughs tab of an email message:
This email message does not contain any links.
The click-throughs tab may show that there are not any links in the message, but the email message does contain email links. 
If all external links in emails are going to the homepage and you see the error of This email message does not contain any links within the email reports
Download and install the latest patch which contains all fixes from previous patches. If you are running an older version, download and install the latest version and then the patch. For information on updating NetCommunity, please see How to install or update Blackbaud NetCommunity 6.x when Blackbaud NetCommunity is hosted and The Raiser's Edge is not hosted by Blackbaud Hosting Services and Which features should be installed to the REWS server when Blackbaud NetCommunity is hosted and The Raiser's Edge is not hosted by Blackbaud Hosting Services.

If only a particular link goes to the homepage after clicking, and the message report is absent of the message
  1. Test the link within Preview Mode
  2. Click the pencil icon for the message
  3. Click View>Preview
  4. Click the links to confirm if they resolve to the homepage or to the expected link
    • If the links go to the wrong page
    • If the links go to the right page:
      • Confirm the link does not have spaces it in, indicated by %20 in the URL
      • If the link is long, try to shorten it, either using a URL shortening application, like bitly, or create a page redirect following the steps below.
        1. Create a page in the NetCommunity site. This can be a blank page with no parts on it 
        2. Click View this Page button
        3. Copy the URL from the browser
        4. Create a URL redirect for the page using the URL that you just copied as the original page. Enter the third party URL as the Target Page
        5. Edit the email message in NetCommunity
        6. Create a link to the page that was created in NetCommunity 

Steps to Duplicate

Steps to duplicate for the email showing message: This email message does not contain any links.
  1. Send an email message from the NetCommunity website
  2. Click the Email Report icon for the sent message
  3. Click the Click-Throughs tab
  4. See the following message: This email message does not contain any links.
  5. Open Email Message sent to constituent in email client (such as Outlook, Gmail, etc)
  6. Click a link to an external page (such as a Facebook link)
  7. Notice the link redirects the user to the home page instead of the the third party external site
